The most anticipated event of the summer – Saldus Municipality Festival – will take place on 9 – 10 June this year. 

On Friday, 9th June, the evening will start with a creative and impressive festive procession “Saldus fills the streets”, the participants will include municipal institutions, administrations of parishes, companies, non-governmental organizations, amateur art collectives, residents and guests.

The procession will end at the Kalnsētas park, where regional choirs and dance groups will perform, as well as several soloists – IGO, Jānis Buķelis, Jānis Paukštello, Marts Kristāns Kalniņš etc.

From 10 p. m. until 2 a.m. the musicians of Saldus region will perform well-known pieces in the town centre – at Oskars Kalpaks’ square. Bands “Brekšupekši” and “Sapņu pietura”, as well as Jānis Narkevics and Jānis Narkevics Junior, and Andris Akermanis together with Raimonds Patmalnieks, will perform at the open-air dance party.

On Friday evening, an illuminated night walk in the streets of Saldus town centre will create memorable experiences for residents and guests alike. Shop windows, streets, squares and spaces usually not accessible to visitors will come alive to delight with art installations, performances, exhibitions, sand cinema, projections, fashion shows and more.

On Saturday, 10 June, various sports, arts and cultural activities will take place. The folk music stage will be located at Māris Čaklais’ square, where the street market will take place; amateur theatre shows will be performed at J. Rozentāls’ Saldus History and Art Museum, a motorcycle and car parade in the streets of Saldus town, activities and entertainment for children and youth.

Active lifestyle enthusiasts will have the opportunity to watch an exciting and impressive beach volleyball tournament – “The King of the Court” on Saturday, in which the best Latvian duos will participate; for the extreme sports fans there will be various events at Saldus skatepark, also cycling, basketball and boxing competitions.

From 9.30 a.m. until 5 p.m. various performances will take place on the stage at Oskars Kalpaks’ square: children’s collectives, line dancers, the percussion group “Samba de Riga” and Rihards Saule with band. Next to the Kalpaks’ square from 11 a.m. till noon each parish of the municipality will present its special food.

The festival will end with a concert “Saldus fulfills and creates” on the stage of Kalnsētas Park, where the creative association “Spiediens” will perform, as well as the bands “Diapazons”, “Dzelzs vilks” and “Citi zēni”. The night will continue with the band “Dziļi violets” and DJ Gustavito.

For the closing concert on June 10, tickets for EUR 5.00 can be purchased ONLY at Saldus Tourism information centre (Striķu iela 3) until May 27. At the other “Biļešu paradīze” ticket offices and online (www.bilesuparadize.lv) the ticket price is 10 EUR. Entrance is free of charge for children up to 7 years old and disabled persons (1st group).
