New Exhibition “The End of War in Courland” at the Customs House in Ezere
A new exhibition at the “Customs House” in Ezere has been created and is now open for visitors. This interactive exhibition tells about the end of World War II in Courland and is part of the Latvian-Estonian cross-border cooperation programme “Military Heritage” project.
The Customs House in Ezere is a unique place – it is a historically significant building, because on May 8, 1945, the capitulation act of Nazi German army units encircled in “Courland pocket” was signed here. It is believed that World War II in fact ended in Ezere.
With artistic means, battle schemes, video testimonies, eyewitness memories, photographs from the last days of the war, as well as unique historical background information, the exhibition brings visitors into the story about the beginning and end of warfare in Courland. It will also highlight the consequences of warfare today, as the evidence of World War II is not only history but also a daily reality.
