Freedom Celebration on 4 May in Saldus
This year, on May 4, the Day of Restoration of Independance will be celebrated in Saldus with a military parade of the National Armed Forces, which will be broadcast live on LTV1.
The celebration will start at 8.45 with Tower music, and at 9 a.m. a service will be held in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saldus.
At 11 a.m. a military parade will start at Oskars Kalpaks’ Square with the participation of units and equipment of the Latvian National Armed Forces and the forces of Allies, the State Border Guard, the State Fire and Rescue Service, the State Police and the Youth Guard. There will also be a flypast during the parade.
The participants of the parade and guests will be addressed by the President of Latvia, the Minister of Defense and the Chairman of Saldus Municipality Council. The Latvian National Armed Forces Army orchestra will perform during the parade.
From 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. a street market will be located between Saldus bus station and skatepark selling artisan produce and crafts. From 12 p.m. till 3 p.m. families with children can participate in various activities between skatepark and the Ciecere river.
At 1 p.m. the Central Military Band of the Latvian National Armed Forces will perform at the “Pienotavas” Square, followed by the NATO soldiers’ rock band “Priam’s Demise” and Latvian band “JUMPRAVA.”
At 2 p.m. one hundred national guardsmen will give an oath in Kalnsētas park.
We inform residents and guests that in the evening of 3 May and during 4 May there will be significant traffic restrictions and parking restrictions in place in Saldus, and several streets will be closed.
