A Civic Education and Historical Understanding Center has been established at the Oskars Kalpaks Museum
The concept of the Civic Education and Historical Understanding Center is based on the three dreams of Artūrs Galindoms, a former participant in the War of Independence, architect and designer of the “Airītes” museum building – The Fight for Latvia; The Memory of Heroes; The Building of the State and Pride in Latvia. In a hyperbolic and symbolic way, these dreams have been re-materialized in the interactive content of the Civic Education and Historical Understanding Center of the O. Kalpaks Museum.
If it is customary to view “Airītes” as a place associated only with Colonel O. Kalpaks, then the essence and interactivity of the new historical understanding center expands the content of the museum to much broader areas – the cultural history of our country, architecture, material culture and public life. As a result, a unique and informatively multi-layered environment has been created, adaptable to different age groups, saturated with 70 activity options, which embodies the spirit of childhood discoveries.
Since its opening at the end of last year, the Civic Education and Historical Awareness Center has become a popular place for different generations to learn and discover the history of Latvia in an interactive way. The museum staff is especially happy about every student who has already managed to visit the museum, but they are waiting for everyone who wants to awaken their spirit of discovery!
