At Saldus Food Factory it is possible to find out how the milk sweets “Gotiņa” (“Little Cow”) are made, see a film about the production process and taste them. Once you have found out, which sweets are the most delicious, you can buy them at the factory shop. Saldus Food Factory offers various types of milk sweets, fudge, creams and also natural fruit jelly candy.

“Saldalus” is one of the first and smallest Latvian breweries, which makes tasty, strong and live beer (5 types) in a traditional way. The whole process is manual and the equipment was created by the owner. Small groups can visit the brewery and enjoy a guided tour and a tasting. Tours available from end of April till october.

Tomato sauce with chilli, pickled chilli, brandied pears with chilli, lingonberries and melon with chilli – you can try all of this and more at the off-site tastings of the produce of Santa Ozoliņa.

“Granskalni” is known as a farm, where sea buckthorn has been grown and juice and other tasty treats have been produced for many years. Recently, the owners have started making fruit wine and offer wine tastings. Visitors can taste and purchase delicious wine made from rhubarb, raspberries, blackcurrant, apples and quince, and many more.

Local folklore group of Zirņi parish studies traditional culinary heritage, especially focusing on dishes made of peas, because the name of their parish means “peas” in Latvian. Visitors can taste many different types of food made with peas: sweet and savory bisquits, pea tarts, pate, pancakes, pies etc.

At the vacation cottage “Brekši” it is possible for groups to taste various flavours of homemade ice cream and honey ice cream. The owner also offers catering services. There is a nice place for a picnic near the water. Minimum number of people: 20.

When visiting beekeeper Jānis Vainovskis in Blīdene parish, you will learn a lot about bees and honey. In the summer, you can take a tour in the apiary dressed in a beekeeping suit, try uncapping honeycomb and extracting honey; in winter – participate in a creative workshop and make beeswax candles or sweets. Visitors can also taste various types of honey, pollen and bee bread. Families and tourist groups are welcome, and a picnic area is available.

The hosts of  country house “Spārni”  offer tours in their garden, as well as tasting of birch sap, herbal tea with dandelion honey, fruit and berry drinks or special honey beer.

Douring a tour in the medicinal herb garden of the herb knower Rita Armulika you can learn about the healing abilities of various herbs, as well as taste and purchase many varieties of her herbal tea.
